Breaking! Lester Holt shared 25 things you don't know about him exclusively with Us Weekly. Find out what the NBC Nightly News anchor, 58, told Us about his fear of snakes, his stand-up comedy past and that time he was rejected by NBC.

1. I love airplanes. Growing up on Air Force bases, I certainly had the "bug," but I never earned my pilot's license. Instead, I fly flight simulators on my computer.

2. As a high school senior, I testified before a committee of the California legislature in support of a bill that would have allowed 17-year-olds to register to vote.

3. In 1979, I was rejected for a job at NBC's flagship radio station, WNBC. I got a letter saying I wasn't what they were looking for. I still smile every time I look at it.

4. I wouldn't ask out my now-wife until her roommate assured me she'd say yes.

5. I have a fear of snakes.

6. A juror instruction video I recorded in the mid-'90s still plays in Chicago's Cook County Court.

7. I could eat Mexican food every day.

8. I like scary movies. Among my favorites: The Hills Have Eyes and 2005's The Descent.

9. Shortly before I left Chicago to join MSNBC, I shaved off the mustache I had for my whole TV career following a lousy day of skiing and a couple of beers.

10. I lived in Alaska from when I was 8 until I was 12 because my father was stationed at Anchorage's Elmendorf Air Force Base.

11. I used to be the lead singer in church.

12. I recorded two songs on the soundtrack for the medical series House with the celebrity group Band From TV.

13. Running with the bulls in Spain used to be on my bucket list until maturity and the responsibility of my role at NBC won out.

14. The only assignment I ever refused required me to parachute out of a plane with the interview subject.

15. While I'm based in New York, I maintain an apartment in the L.A. area and often anchor NBC Nightly News from our L.A. studio.

16. I have not owned a car in nearly 10 years.

17. I like to bake desserts, especially cobblers and pies. I'll take a tart over a chocolate soufflé any day.

18. I speak a little Italian.

19. I'm dangerous when it comes to mechanical things. I once installed a garage shelf that then collapsed, sending buckets of paint falling onto our babysitter's car.

20. I'm a morning person.

21. I always have to have the latest device. I travel with two phones, an iPad, a laptop and an Apple Watch.

22. I dabbled in stand-up comedy.

23. People are often surprised I don't golf.

24. I only attended college for two years, but I have two honorary doctorate degrees from Pepperdine University and California State University, Sacramento.

25. I never learned to type, so I use four fingers to write. Thank God for autocorrect.

NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt airs on NBC weekdays at 6:30 p.m.

Goldie Hawn Tells Daughter Kate Hudson Why She Took a 15-Year Break From Hollywood

Goldie Hawn is back on the big screen next month in Snatched, her first movie since 2002's The Banger Sisters. But the actress, 71, hasn't been just sitting at home for the last 15 years. In a new chat with her daughter, Kate Hudson, for the May issue of Interview magazine, Hawn reveals why she decided to step back from Hollywood for more than a decade.

"It's been 15 years since you've chosen to make a movie. Why so long?"

 Hudson, 38, asked her mom.

"Because I believe that life is about doing. It's about changing. It's about transitioning. I can't imagine, as a human being, not being able to grow,"

Hawn replied.

"When I turned 50, I asked some of my girlfriends, all actresses of the same age, 'What are we going to do now?'"

she continued.

"I wanted to go live somewhere for a while, learn archaeology, or take part in healing the world on some level. I wanted to dig deep and say, 'Who am I now? What do I have to offer? What do I have to learn?' I started learning about the brain, psychology. And after 9/11, I decided, 'I know what I'm going to do.'"

What she did was write two books, 2006's Goldie: A Lotus Grows in the Mud and 2012's 10 Mindful Minutes. Through her Hawn Foundation, she also started MindUP, a program to teach kids "social and emotional learning skills that link cognitive neuroscience, positive psychology and mindful awareness training," according to the organization's Facebook page.

"It's now in Jordan, Serbia, the U.K., America, Canada, Hong Kong," Hawn told Hudson of MindUP. "I never looked back. I never wished to be acting again. I was so engaged."

Ultimately, of course, she did decide to lend her talents to Hollywood again. In Snatched, she and Amy Schumer play a mother-daughter duo whose exotic vacation goes horribly wrong. The movie hits theaters on May 12.

Nina Dobrev Adopted the Most Adorable Puppy Ever: Photos

Hi. My name is Maverick Do(g)brev. I like long walks on the beach and candle lit dinners in doggie bowls. I have a brother named Goose and we're both 9 weeks old. I keep hearing the giants around us say that we're half Border Collie half Aussie Shepard, but I guess we won't know for sure until we get a DNA test. We stayed at this hotel called @the_pet_care_foundation for a little while, and it wasn't too bad, but I'm SO much happier where I am now. I have a yard, and toys, and a new mommy. Don't tell her I said this, but I find it strange she has no fur anywhere except for her head. But she always rubs my tummy and showers me with love, so her lack of hair doesn't bother me too much. Goose and I still get to play all the time since my auntie @cheeklane fostered him until he finds a forever home, so that's cool too. I'm really hoping someone in their friend circle keeps him so we can continue to hang out because I love him very much. Mommy said that if it wasn't for @puppyluvla she wouldn't have found me, so I'd like to send a special Wuff Wuff to them. And to @the_pet_care_foundation for sheltering us until mommy came to rescue us. We appreciated all the food you gave us while we stayed with you. Anyway, mom's calling, she doesn't love it when I'm on social media too much, especially when it's so sunny and beautiful out.. she says I need to get more vitamin D. Whatever that is. She's already trying to teach me tricks, and I love to impress her, so I'm going to go show her how smart I am. I'll take some videos so you can see how smart I am too. Did I mention I'm super smart? Oh, and I'm the cutest puppy in the world. That's what my mommy says. Puppy Love, Maverick 🐶

That face! Nina Dobrev just adopted a new dog — and she's the cutest! The Vampire Diaries alum introduced her via Instagram on Monday, April 24.

"Meet Maverick," she captioned a pic of the pup wearing a red hair bow.
The star, 28, even created a "@Mrs.Maverick" Instagram account for her new buddy.

"Hi. My name is Maverick Do(g)brev. I like long walks on the beach and candle lit dinners in doggie bowls," the introductory post reads. "I have a brother named Goose and we’re both 9 weeks old. I keep hearing the giants around us say that we’re half Border Collie half Aussie Shepherd, but I guess we won’t know for sure until we get a DNA test."
"I'm SO much happier where I am now," Maverick continued in the Instagram post. "I have a yard, and toys, and a new mommy. Don't tell her I said this, but I find it strange she has no fur anywhere except for her head. But she always rubs my tummy and showers me with love, so her lack of hair doesn't bother me too much."

Dobrev's new addition comes just weeks after the actress' 18-year-old cat passed away. The feline went by nine different names and had a large presence on Dobrev's social media accounts.

Heineken Releases Political Ad Weeks After Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi Controversy

Heineken Releases Political Ad After Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi Controversy
Just three weeks after Pepsi released a politically charged ad starring Kendall Jenner, Heineken has made a social justice statement of their own. The beer company recently released a four-minute YouTube video titled

“Worlds Apart: An Experiment,”

in which six strangers with different political and social views were divided into three partnerships and tasked with working together to build stools, and eventually a bar.
Later in the process, participants were able to see what their partners had confessed to producers before the experiment began — and the pairs quickly began to realize their political differences.

One transgender woman watched her assigned partner say that being transgender was

 “not right,”

while another pairing realized their starkly different opinions on climate change. Despite their differences, each duo stayed to talk and work through their opinions — over beer, of course.

While the ad has been called “brilliant” by celebrities including Sarah Silverman, Pepsi's since-pulled protest-themed commercial, titled

“Live For Now Moments Anthem,”

was panned by critics who accused the drink vendor of using Black Lives Matter and other movements to sell their product.
